Police Divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with Metro Police Search and Rescue were called out to conduct a dive operation to search for an exhibit in the Umlazi River.

A knife, believed to have been used in a double murder over the weekend in the Lamontville Area, was thrown into the river from the overhead footbridge as the suspect fled.

The 25 year old suspect pointed out the area alongside Gwala street where the knife was disposed of. Divers battled for more than 5 hours to search the river due to extremely thick vegetation that obstructed their efforts. The knife was recovered at a depth of 6m.

The exhibit was handed over to the Investigating Officer on scene.
