A man was arrested by Ladysmith K9 unit officers for possession of unlicensed firearm in the Burford area of Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal police said
In a statement, police on Tuesday said: “On Monday afternoon, Ladysmith K9 unit officers followed up on information that they had received about an unlicensed firearm.
“The man was caught with a .45 pistol and four rounds of ammunition. The pistol had its serial number filed off.
“The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it may have been used to commit any crime in the country,” police said.
The KZN acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa praised the members of Ladysmith K9 unit as well as Pongola and Ulundi Public Order Policing for the arrests and recovering of illegal firearms at Ladysmith and Pongola area respectively.
“Community must play a vital role in giving information to the police about illegal firearms. The same unlicensed firearms are being used by criminals to kill and attack innocent people,” he said
