KZN taxi 'hit man' arrested in hospital with gunshot wounds

On 1 May 2020, detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit and Ugu Cluster conducted an intelligence driven operation following a report of a man admitted in hospital was received. Police proceeded to the identified hospital and found a 28-year-old male with gunshot wounds. The said male was sought for a number of taxi violence related shootings in the province.

It is alleged that last week, he was shot and injured by unknown men whilst at Folweni and he was driven by his acquaintances to a hospital on the South Coast where he was admitted for medical attention.

Police investigations have linked the suspect to a number of murder cases in the Inanda, Umlazi, Umzinto and other areas in the province. The suspect will be charged and will appear in court soon.

An investigation to determine on how he was shot is continuing. Police also seized his vehicle for further investigation.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the investigating officers for their persistence to solve taxi violence related cases.
