On 9 November 2018, the Provincial Drug Unit, K9 Unit together with the KwaDukuza Task Team arrested two suspects aged 26 and 30 and recovered a total of 1080 capsules of heroin with cash suspected to be the proceeds from drug trade.

Police conducted an intelligence driven operation at the Shakaville informal settlement in the KwaDukuza policing area and arrested a 30 year old suspect who was found with 810 capsules of heroin with R 3000.00 cash. They proceeded to the Umhlali policing area where another suspect was arrested at Etete area. He was found with 270 capsules of heroin. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is more than R 32 000-00.

Both suspects were charged for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. They will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court.

This arrest follows another arrest that was affected at the Port Shepstone and Scottburgh areas where five suspects aged between 23 and 61 were arrested after they were found with a total of 1 575 capsules of heroin, with an estimated street value of R50 000-00.

They appeared in the Port Shepstone and Scottburgh Magistrates Courts. These operations are continuing throughout the province and drug dealers should be aware that they will face the same fate soon as festive season operations have been stepped up.
