Members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) in KwaZulu-Natal, in collaboration with eThekwini Metro Investigators, have arrested a 49-year-old man after discovering illegal firearms at his residence in Adams Mission, KwaMakhutha. The arrest took place on Tuesday night, 17 June 2025, following an intelligence-driven operation.
Authorities acted on information about a suspect allegedly in possession of firearms. Upon raiding his home, police found a pistol in his possession. A subsequent search led to the recovery of two (2) AK47 assault rifles and multiple rounds of ammunition of varying calibres.
The seized firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any criminal activities in the province or elsewhere in South Africa. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to illegal firearm possession.
Police have commended the joint operation, reinforcing their commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.
