KwaZulu-Natal police arrest 2 murder and robbery suspects

A police task team has arrested two suspects wanted for murder, attempted murder, house robbery and business robbery, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said the men, aged 23 and 28, appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court and will remain behind bars until their next court appearance on October 5.

The men have been linked to the murder of an 80-year-old woman at her home north of Durban earlier this year.

“On 9 July 2016 at about 19:15, Radika Roopnarian, 80, was at her home in Falcon Road, Duffs Road with her family when they were accosted by five unknown suspects who robbed them of their belongings including cash and jewellery. The old woman and her son were both shot and taken to hospital where she later died.”

Police are still searching for the other three suspects.

Zwane said the arrested suspects have also been linked to the robbery of a food outlet in Malandela Road last month. In that case, three men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
