Following the brutal killing of five people in KwaNdengezi last year, the Provincial Commissioner assigned the docket to detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit who took over the investigation. With little information at hand, they worked tireless in their quest to bring the ruthless killers to book so that they can answer for the heinous crime.

Detectives recently arrested a 23-year-old man at Tshelimnyama who they found in possession of one of the deceased’s cellphone. The suspect, who was charged, made his first appearance before the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 2 February 2021 on charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of stolen property.

He was remanded in custody until 12 February 2021. Detectives expect more arrests, as the investigation is ongoing.

His arrest follows the attack on six people including three females that took place on 26 September 2020 at 21:00. The victims were inside a vehicle at Snethemba area in KwaNdengezi when a group of men who arrived in another vehicle, ordered them out. The suspects allegedly indiscriminately opened fire on them.

Police found five of the victims’ dead near the vehicle and established that one of the victims was seriously injured and transported to hospital. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation at KwaNdengezi SAPS.
