KwaMashu Resident Robbed at Gunpoint in Phoenix After Withdrawing Cash

A 30-year-old KwaMashu resident was held at gunpoint and robbed of cash and valuables this afternoon (Wednesday) after withdrawing money from an ATM in Phoenix.

The victim reported the incident to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 17:35, seeking assistance. According to his statement, he was walking through a shortcut at the corner of Torevale Close and Bridge City Drive when two armed suspects accosted him. The assailants, armed with 9mm pistols, stole a R20 note, an Honor mobile phone, and a pair of earphones before fleeing the scene.

Reaction Officers immediately conducted a search of the area, but no arrests were made.

Authorities suspect that the perpetrators had followed the victim from a local bank, where he had visited an outdoor FNB ATM to print a bank statement.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant when using ATMs and to avoid isolated pathways, especially after withdrawing cash. Police investigations are ongoing.
