The Verulam Regional Court convicted and sentenced Nkanyiso Daniel Mhlongo (25) to 15 years imprisonment for killing Dumusani Luthuli (33) two years ago. The accused was sentenced on Wednesday, 13 March 2018 after the Magistrate heard how he killed the victim at the hostel.
It is alleged that on 16 December 2017 the victim, Dumisani Luthuli was with his friends at Kholwa Road in KwaMashu Hostel, when they were approached by the accused. The accused had an argument with the victim resulting in the stabbing of the victim whose throat was also slit.
A case of murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation.
Following a comprehensive investigation by detectives, the accused was traced to Maphumulo where he was arrested and brought to book. He made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced by the Verulam Regional Court.
