On the night of 9 January 2020, intelligence driven operation was conducted by KwaMashu detectives, in tracing their wanted suspects for business robberies which occurred last month. Four suspects aged between 23 and 38 were arrested respectively, two were tracked at Ntuzuma, one at Bester and the last one at KwaDabeka township.

On 24 December 2019 at 11:05, four men stormed at the business premises situated at a mall in KwaMashu and held the staff and patrons at gunpoint. A number of cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash from till points were taken. Whilst the suspects were fleeing the scene on their getaway vehicle, a security guard alerted police and other guards who closed the exit gate forcing the suspects to abandon their vehicle and fled on foot in different directions.

Police responded swiftly and recovered some stolen cellphones inside the suspects’ vehicle. A case of business robbery was opened for investigation in KwaMashu police station.

The arrested suspects will make their first appearance in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on Monday, 13 January 2020 facing a charge of business robbery.

“We are pleased with the swift arrest and the dedication displayed by the KwaMashu police officers in locating the suspects. We are confident that the suspects will get a deserving sentence once convicted in court,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
