On 12 December 2017, the Durban High Court sentenced Luthando Mnyamana (37) to life imprisonment for murder and fifteen years for business robbery.

His sentence came after the Judge heard how he killed Mzwandile Dimane (32). It is alleged on 1 January 2017, at 18:55, at Ntshawini area, the victim was at his business premises when the accused entered the local tuck shop and at gunpoint he demanded cash.

He took cash, cigarettes, airtime and shot Dimane. He was declared dead at the scene and the accused fled the scene.

Charges of murder and business robbery were opened for investigation at KwaDukuza SAPS. Intensive investigation was conducted and the accused was traced and arrested in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape where he was hiding.

During the court proceedings it emerged that previously the accused and the deceased were involved in a fight, the accused was defeated and he did not took it well. He planned to attack the deceased at his tuck shop. The accused made several court appearances and was sentenced.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the investigating team for making sure that the accused is locked behind the bars.

“This sentence will also serve as a warning to all those who are taking the Law into their own hands, that crime does not pay,” he said.
