Kranskop rapist sentenced to life imprisonment

On 29 October 2018, the Greytown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Thembinkosi Ngubane (69) to life imprisonment for rape. In June 2016, a then 19 year old victim was returning from work, accompanied by her colleague when she was attacked by the accused.

Whilst she was walking with her colleague at Maliyavuza area, they were approached by the accused who attempted to sweet talk her. When she spurned his attempts, the accused attacked her and dragged her into nearby bushes where he raped her.

The victim managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to Kranskop SAPS. The docket was transferred to the Greytown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

The accused was swiftly arrested and he made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced accordingly. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and his name will be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register.
