On Thursday 4 January 2018 at about 14:00, an elderly man who went for a walk in a Private Reserve in Hillcrest got disorientated and soon found himself off the path and lost.

By 19:00 he had not returned home. Durban Search and Rescue along with Umhlali K9 SAR were notified by Dave Leppan from the Fire Department. Meditech ER notified Rescuetech, a volunteer group, to assist with searching the vast forest.

Within 20 minutes of entering the bush, K9 Dante found the man with his left leg trapped in a rocky crevice.

ER24 Paramedics stabilized him at the site he was found. He was carried out of the forest on a Rescue Stokes Basket and transported to Hillcrest Hospital for further observation and treatment.
