Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele has commended the swift action of officers in KwaZulu-Natal who foiled a robbery and recovered scores of firearms. The take down saw calculated efforts by members of Crime Intelligence, Task Force and K9 Units pounce on a gang of would-be robbers in Isipingo, South of Durban.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, 21 September 2019, police officers acted on intelligence driven information about a planned robbery and bombing of safes in one of the business premises in Isipingo. The police officers responded and waited for the suspects who arrived.

A shootout initiated by the suspects ensued, a total of nine suspects died during the exchange of gunfire. A 29 year old suspect was arrested at the crime scene. Unlicensed firearms, explosives and breaking-in implements were recovered from the scene.

Minister Cele has praised the team effort saying “The police must be supported in the fight against dangerous and highly armed criminals. The call to half violent crimes requires a dedicated workforce that will go out there and stamp the authority of the state” Cele concluded.
