Isipingo business held up by four armed robbers

Business owners in the Isipingo area, especially the CBD, are urged to be on high alert following a business robbery on Jadwat Street on Friday.

Due to month-end busyness, business owners need to ensure that their onsite security officers are alert and vigilant and CCTV cameras are operative as well as armed guards need to be visible if there are large amounts of cash on the premises.

Alpha Alarms armed response team responded to a well-planned business robbery on Jadwat Steet after four armed suspects, three with firearms and 1 with a knife, held up two cashiers within minutes on the narrow and busy street.

The Alpha team responded immediately to the call-out. The store was crowded and the owners were outside supervising the offloading of stock at the time of the robbery.

A large truck with the delivery of stock had blocked the front entrance. The owner told the Alpha officers that the suspects pretended to be customers and stood at the till as if they were ready to pay for items. The suspects pulled out their weapons and demanded cash from the tills.

The cashiers handed over the cash and the suspects fled in a white VW Polo. The registration is unknown.

No shots were fired and no one was injured. Shoppers and the cashiers were visibly shaken. The amount stolen is unconfirmed.

The robbers were said to be headed in the direction of KwaMakhuta.

Alpha security officers searched the area for any signs of the suspects but to no avail.

SAPS and Metro Police were on the scene and circulated a description of the vehicle.

A case of business robbery is being investigated.
