It is alleged that on 17 January 2019 at 01:00, the victim was asleep at his house in Mahlabeni in Ndumo, when three unknown armed suspects broke the door. The suspects opened fire at the victim and there was a shootout.

Ndumo police immediately responded to the crime scene and a suspect was arrested at Emhlabeni area after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm. He sustained a gunshot wound to the foot was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Another suspect was arrested at his homestead in the Ndumo area. Police conducted further investigation with regards to the remaining suspect who managed to flee the scene.

The investigation led the team to a local clinic in Esikhawini where the third suspect was being treated after he sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was then taken to hospital where he is under police guard.

The suspects are facing charges of robbery, attempted murder, malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspects who are aged between 25 and 30 will appear in the Ingwavuma Magistrates Court on Monday, 21 January 2019.
