On 7 July 2022, SAPS, Transnet, PRASA, Telkom and Municipal Electricity and Infrastructure conducted and acted on information of stolen copper being transported in consignment to a scrap metal dealer in Phoenix Industrial Park area.

On arrival at the scrap yard an inspection was done where stolen copper to the value of R40 000-00 was found. The manager was arrested for possession of stolen property and tampering with infrastructure.

Whilst the arrest was taking place, the driver of the scrap yard arrived. On searching his vehicle, 90kg of stolen copper to the value of R15 000-00 was found in the vehicle.

He too was arrested for possession of stolen property and tampering with infrastructure.

Both suspects aged 37 and 32 years old, will be appearing in Durban Magistrate Court.

Ethekwini District Commissioner, Major General MV Kheswa welcomed the Economic Infrastructure Task Team operations within Ethekwini District and is pleased to see many arrests being made.
