On the night of 18 December 2021, officers from the Ladysmith Visible Policing Unit were conducting patrols in the Hyde Park area. The vigilant officers came across a white Honda motor vehicle. There were six male occupants in the vehicle.
The officers immediately pulled the vehicle over.
The occupants were searched. On searching the vehicle, officers discovered a 9mm pistol.
The pistol’s serial number had been filled off. There were seven rounds of ammunition in the magazine of the pistol. No one took ownership for the firearm.
All six men aged between 28 and 39 years of age were arrested.
They will make an appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court. They face charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspects will be profiled to ascertain if they have been involved in other crimes.
