Housebreaking in Clarendon, suspect arrested

Marshall Security were alerted through the Clarendon Neighbourhood Watch whatsapp groups shortly after 12h00 on Monday, to an attempted housebreaking in Edgley Road. A homeowner reported that a male suspect entered his garage on his property through the roof and attempted to steal a bicycle from the premises, however was disturbed by the man and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

A description of the suspect was distributed to Marshall Security and a male matching the description was found running down Northumberland Place in Durban North. At the time of the sighting a second call was received by Marshall Security from a resident in Northumberland Place who reported forced entry had been gained into the garage on his property and gymnasium equipment had been reported stolen.

Armed reaction officers apprehended the man who was found to be in possession of the equipment taken from the premesis in Northumberland Place and who was later positively identified by the homeowner in Edgley Road as the same suspect who forced entry onto his property.

The suspect was arrested on sight and handed over to the South African Police Services (SAPS) for further investigation and processing.
