On 15 November 2018,Southport police and K9 Unit together with a security company arrested a 28 year old suspect for housebreaking, theft as well as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition at Umzumbe. It is alleged that on the same day at 06:50, a 51 year old woman who resides at Ridgeview in Umzumbe, left her home for work and when she arrived home in the evening she found her house had been looted.

A great amount of personal property which included bags, clothes, three handguns and a shotguns were stolen. The suspect allegedly forced the door opened using a sharp instrument. The victim reported the incident to police and the search began.

Investigations led police and security guards into the bushes where the suspect was still in hiding together with the stolen property. He was then arrested and charged and will appear at Port Shepstone Magistrates Court on Monday 19 November 2018.
