Early this morning, Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma confirmed reports of a devastating car accident in KwaSwayimane after receiving a briefing from Traffic Ambassador Ayanda Msweli.
According to preliminary reports, a vehicle driven by a female motorist plunged off a cliff in the area yesterday. Helicopter rescue teams have been deployed to locate the wreckage, but the full extent of the casualties remains unclear.
“The details regarding the number and condition of the victims are still being established,” said Duma.
The MEC has dispatched a team to assist the affected family and community while the Road Traffic Inspectorate coordinates with the South African Police Search and Rescue Unit and emergency services.
Authorities have promised further updates as the situation develops.
