A 74 year old grandmother and her family were attacked by four armed robbers in Mt Edgecombe, KZN on the afternoon of 15 June 2018.

At approx 15:48 the Reaction Unit South Africa Operations Center in Phoenix received a call from a male seeking immediate response to his home in Mt Edgecombe. The caller informed the controller that his family was being held up by armed suspects.

Reaction Officers, Paramedics and the RUSA Helicopter was despatched to the Golf Estate. Upon arrival were informed that balaclava clad suspects armed with pistols had forced their way into the home after tampering with the driveway gate.

The South African Police and several other private companies responded swiftly to the scene. The suspects fled prior to arrival of the first Responders and at that stage it was believed that they had fled on foot. The Helicopter then conducted a search for the suspects but was later rerouted after information was received that the getaway vehicle was possibly a white Mercedes-Benz C-class. This information has not been confirmed.

The 74 year old woman was treated by Paramedics after she suffered an anxiety attack. She informed Officers that one suspect had covered her mouth during the home invasion.
