Home invasion: Family held up, shots fired, Southridge

At approximately 19:39 Thursday evening 20 February 2020, the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Verulam Operations Center received a call from a resident of Greenwood Close in Southridge, Verulam reporting a house robbery.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the residence and on arrival it was established that a silver Mercedes Benz Compressor (registration unknown) had drove onto the property. Four armed suspects gained entry into the home and held up the family.

The gunmen removed three wall mounted televisions and robbed the victims of two Samsung cellphones and a set of vehicle keys. They loaded two of the televisions in their getaway vehicle and abandoned one in the yard.

One of the victims was in possession of a firearm and approached the suspects as they were about to make their getaway when one of the gunmen opened fire on him. The victim returned fire and shot the getaway vehicle as it sped off.

The RUSA/SAPS Rapid Response Unit conducted an extensive search for the robbers however they still remain at large.
