A foreign couple were robbed in their home by three attackers minutes after load shedding was implemented in B Section, Parkgate on Wednesday evening, 16 october 2019.

While attending to a home invasion on Wimbledon Grove two Zimbabwean nationals approached Reaction Officers requesting assistance after their brother and sister in law were robbed in their home.

The complainants informed RUSA Members that the suspects were all armed with handguns. They forced their way into the residence and robbed the victims of their cellphones and passports before fleeing in the couples imported 1.5 Nissan Bluebird with foreign registration plates. It was confirmed that the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device which was immediately activated.

The Tracker Operations Centre confirmed that the vehicle was mobile and provided Reaction Officers with the vehicles path of travel. Officers intercepted the vehicle at a service station on Todd Street. The heavily armed suspects opened fire on RUSA Members who returned fire and shot the vehicle multiple times as it sped off. One Reaction Officer was seriously injured after he was shot with an AK47.

Several back up Reaction Officers pursued the getaway vehicle which crashed into a light pole on the corner of Garden and Kolwa Street. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a dense bush alongside a stream.

The SAPS K9 Unit, Metro Police and several private security companies converged on the scene and conducted an extensive search for the suspects however they still remain at large. Blood was found on the driver’s seat and at least one suspect is believed to be injured.

The injured Reaction Officer was stabilized on scene and rapidly transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
