A Hillcrest thief was arrested for allegedly stealing food from a local supermarket in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a vigilant armed response officer had noticed the suspect walking along Inanda Road when he was responding to an alarm activation at a property. The incident occurred at around 12.50am.
“He noticed the suspect was not carrying anything, but when our officer finished checking the property he again saw the suspect pushing a trolley along Old Main Road. The trolley was loaded with groceries which had been stolen from the receiving area of a local supermarket where it keeps food for donations to NGO’s,” he said.
“The suspect fled the scene, but our officer chased him and arrested him at a taxi rank. He was handed over to Hillcrest SAPS at the scene,” he said.
In an incident reported earlier this month, a Hillcrest business security guard was held at gunpoint as armed robbers ransacked the premises.
