Hillcrest police arrests house robber with firearm and stolen vehicle

DURBAN – On Friday morning at 02:30, Hillcrest police officers responded to a report of a house robbery on Bhekisisa Road in KwaNgcolosi.

On route, they spotted a vehicle that was reportedly stolen during the robbery. Upon seeing the police officers, the suspects sped off and a chase ensued. Following a shoot-out, the suspect’s vehicle overturned. Two suspects emerged from the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes whilst shooting at police officers. One of the suspects was injured and was placed under arrest. He was found in possession of a pistol with six rounds of ammunition. He was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.

According to the victim, two armed suspects entered his house and at gunpoint they demanded cash. The suspects assaulted and stabbed the victim. They stole cash, cellphones, TV, clothes and other belongings before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle. A 34-year-old suspect will appear in court soon on charges of house robbery and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
