In the early hours of Friday, 11 January 2019, Mariannhill police arrested three suspects aged between 20 and 35, recovered three firearms with ammunition and a hijacked vehicle. They will appear at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court on 14 January 2019.

Police officers received a report of a vehicle that was hijacked in Welbedacht on 10 January 2019. An intelligence operation was conducted at the KwaNdengezi policing precinct. A suspect was found at his home, Etsheni Road with a pistol, 15 rounds of ammunition and vehicle keys.

Police proceeded to another house in Khuphoni Road where another suspect was found in possession of a firearm. The suspect was arrested at his homestead in Sgumbuqwini area with a hijacked Toyota CHR and a shotgun in his possession. They were all taken to KwaNdengezi police station for detention.

It is alleged that the recovered vehicle was hijacked from its owner in the Chatsworth policing area. The suspects will be charged for possession of firearm and ammunition, carjacking and possession of suspected stolen property. These men will also be linked to a house robbery that occurred at Thornwood in the Mariannhill where the victim was robbed of his belongings including a firearm, few weeks ago.
