On Sunday, 14 April 2019, at 16:50, an e-hailing services driver was on duty in New Germany when he was approached by two males who enquired about a trip to Fannin Extension in Clermont. When they got in the back seat of the car the driver noticed that they were both in possession of firearms.

He told the police that he had two passengers that are armed in his vehicle and they are directing him to go to an unknown destination.
One of the police officers alighted from his vehicle and went to check. When he got to the vehicle, one suspect ran away and the other pointed the police officer with a firearm. The police officer reiterated and shot the suspect in his throat fatally wounding him.
While the police were still on the scene a vehicle approached the scene. It was driven by a female who identified herself as the sister of the deceased. The driver noticed a man who in the vehicle and identified him as a second suspect who tried to hijack him but ran away when they were confronted by the police.
He had changed his clothes but was positively identified by the complainant. A 19 year old man was then arrested on the spot. An unlicensed firearm was recovered from the deceased suspect.
