A 21 year old hijacking suspect was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa near Hilltop in Verulam in KZN.

RUSA received a tip off that a Toyota Etios that was either hijacked or stolen was parked at an informal settlement on Hilltop Drive. Acting on the information Reaction Officers proceeded to the location and found that the vehicle unlocked. The sound system had been stolen.

The caller informed Officers that he noticed four men stripping the vehicle at approximately 05:30 on 25 March 2018. The suspects then left however one of them returned a short while ago and was attempting to start the vehicle. When he realised that residents in the area were monitoring his movements he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A registration check confirmed that the vehicle was hijacked from Kwamakhutha in Amanzimtoti.

The informer provided RUSA Members with a detailed clothing description of the man. An extensive search was conducted and an individual matching the description was found walking on Inanda Road. Officers approached him and during questioning found that he repeatedly contradicted himself. During further questioning he confirmed that he was one of the men involved in the hijacking. He led Reaction Officers to a rock where he had hid the car keys after he had fled from the vehicle.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further investigation.
