The KwaZulu-Natal Location Division of the High Court of South Africa in Durban has granted a forfeiture order for R50,600 seized in connection with a violent cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place in the Ndwedwe area near Verulam on 12 August 2024.

The robbery involved armed suspects using explosives and firearms to breach a cash security van. A coordinated response by law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of one suspect on 29 August 2024 during a roadblock in KwaDukuza. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a pistol, a rifle, and a sum of cash.

Following the arrest, the case was handed over to the Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation team, which worked alongside the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to secure the final forfeiture order for the seized R50,600. The successful court ruling marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to dismantle criminal proceeds linked to CIT heists.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing both the perpetrators and the financial gains of such crimes. Investigations into the broader syndicate involved in the robbery remain ongoing.
