On Thursday 14 October 2021, Scottburgh Regional Court convicted and sentenced Albert Ngcameni (33) to six months imprisonment or to pay a fine of R30 000-00 for receiving property suspected to be stolen.

On 4 February 2020, Ngcameni who was a scrap metal manager was arrested by the Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation for receiving stolen tower batteries.

Members received information about a vehicle which was carrying stolen tower batteries and a follow up information led them to the local scrap metal in Hibberdene.

Upon their arrival, they found Ngcameni with tower batteries and he was arrested together with John Piri (26) who was charged for being in the country illegally.

Piri was sentenced to six months direct imprisonment and will be deported at the end of his sentence.
