Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime unit assisted by Port Shepstone Public Order Policing arrested a 28-year-old suspect for house robbery which occurred around the Hibberdene area in September last year.

It is alleged that a police Sergeant was asleep in his residence when he was awakened by the suspect at gunpoint. The suspect robbed him of his service pistol with live rounds of ammunition and a cell phone. The suspect fled the scene and a case of house robbery was reported at Hibberdene police station.

On Friday, 29 January 2021, Hawks members pursued information about the whereabouts of the suspect and a joint operation was conducted. During the operation members managed to recover a policeman’s firearm and another firearm which was reportedly stolen during a house robbery in Port Shepstone last year.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 February 2021.
