Heroin dealer nabbed in operation, Phoenix

Police officers from the Provincial Task Team conducted an operation in Phoenix on 23 August 2019, to root out the drug trade and drug use in the area. The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects for possession of drugs.

In Stanmore, police arrested a 24 year old suspect after he was found with 100 capsules containing heroin and a 31 year old suspect was found with mandrax powder.

Police proceeded to Longbury Drive where a 23 year old suspect was also arrested for possession of drugs after he was found with heroin.

A 55 year old suspect was detained for possession of a dangerous weapon when police recovered a knife, found in his possession in Stanmore Drive.

The operation ended with the arrest of a minibus taxi driver (29) in Hunslet Drive who almost caused an accident in the presence of police officers while transporting an overload of passengers in an unroadworthy taxi. When he was instructed to stop, he offered police officers cash to avoid being charged. He was arrested and charged for bribery.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Phoenix Magistrate’s Court on Monday 26 August 2019.
