Eighty five staff members of the Department of Health in Natal were absent on “sick leave” for more than 5 000 days.
The problem of the department is therefore not a shortage of staff members, but just that current staff are never at work.
Health experts say these are the kind of people who will never enable the new national health scheme to be successful.
