HAYFIELDS — A community member is recovering from a leg injury following a brazen Hayfields armed robbery that escalated into a shootout. The incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon after emergency dispatchers received multiple reports of gunfire at a jewellery store inside a popular local shopping complex.
Mi7 Emergency Medical Services was among the responders mobilized to the scene. However, the victim—a bystander shot in the leg—was initially stabilized on-site by paramedics from a separate medical service provider before being transported to a hospital. Upon arrival, Mi7 crews focused on providing critical trauma and psychological support to retail employees and witnesses who were left deeply shaken by the violence.
Investigators indicate that the criminal syndicate consisted of seven armed men who executed a highly coordinated tactical approach. Four suspects breached the retail premises to carry out the heist, while the remaining three positioned themselves at vantage points outside to serve as armed lookouts.
The situation intensified when a police patrol vehicle entered the complex’s parking area, apparently oblivious to the ongoing heist. As the interior team began their escape, the exterior lookouts reportedly unleashed a barrage of gunfire directed at the law enforcement vehicle to cover their retreat.
The perpetrators successfully fled the scene with an unquantified, undisclosed amount of stolen jewellery. In the immediate aftermath, the Mi7 Strategic Threat Response Unit was mobilized to assist law enforcement in a massive, ongoing manhunt for the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
