Police in Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a police officer.
Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said Sabelo Mkhwanazi, 28, was arrested in Newcastle by the members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) on Wednesday.
Mkhwanazi is alleged to have stabbed to death and robbed Lieutenant Aron Khoza of his service pistol in October 2014.
“An intensive investigation was conducted and the suspect was positively linked whilst detained on another case which happened in Free State last year,” Mhlongo said.
“He appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he was charged for murder and robbery. The case was postponed to 28 September,” said Mhlongo.
