At approximately 13:10 on Saturday 15 July 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shootout in Malendela road in KwaMashu, outside Durban.
Reports from the scene allege that a large group of armed men attacked armed cash guards as they were moving cash between their armored vehicle and a shopping center.
A shootout ensued between them. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.
Netcare 911 arrived at the scene and attended to a 28-year-old cash guard, he had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was in a critical condition.
He was attended to by an Advanced Life Support paramedic and placed on a ventilator at the scene. Following stabilization, he was transported by a Netcare 911 ambulance to a hospital for the urgent medical care that he required.
The SAPS were also on the scene.
