On the morning of 20 May 2019, an intelligence driven EThekwini Outer South Cluster operation was conducted by police officers from Umlazi SAPS and Metro police at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi.

The police officers were following up information with regards to a suspect wanted in a pointing of firearm case. Whilst conducting the operation, the officers identified the Block where the suspect resides. The suspect (33) was arrested and charged with pointing of firearm.

He is expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrates Court. The arrested suspect will be profiled to establish if he is involved in any other crimes at the hostel.

On 13 May 2019 at 19.40, the victim (50) was at a local tuckshop at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect allegedly attempted to shoot the victim but the firearm misfired and jammed.

A case of pointing of firearm was opened at Umlazi police station for further investigation.
