A 16 year old girl was raped while walking home from her part time job on Amora Drive in Mountview, Verulam on Saturday, 8 September 2018.

At approximately 11:38 Reaction Unit South Africa was informed of the incident by a resident in the area after the victim ran to them for help. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival it was established that the grade 11 learner did part time jobs as a domestic worker on weekends.

After work she was walking to the Verulam CBD to catch a taxi home to Mhlasini in Everest Heights when she was approached by a man who began assaulting her.

He informed her that if she screamed he would kill her. He then led her to a change room next to the Mountview tennis courts where he forced her remove all her clothes and raped her. During the rape he kept his hand on her throat and warned her not to scream. He repeatedly told her that if she failed to comply with his instruction he would murder her.

After he had finished the victim managed to run to a resident who had just arrived home and informed them of the incident. The member of public noticed the suspect dressed in blue jeans, a blue denim jacket and work boots fleeing from the change room into a dense bush.

The home owner then contacted RUSA for assistance. Reaction Officers conducted a search of the bush however the perpetrator remains at large. Clothing belonging to the teenager was found in the change room.

A case of rape is being investigated.
