Girl (15) attempts suicide by drinking brake fluid, Riyadh

A Grade 10 female from a secondary school in Brindhaven, Verulam, KZN attempted to commit suicide on the morning of, Tuesday 6 November 2018, by drinking brake fluid and slashing her wrist with a shaving blade.

Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the home in Riyadh by the child’s parents at approx 09:45 after they found that she locked herself in the bathroom. Reaction Officers arrived on scene and found the child in an emotional state.

An open bottle of brake fluid was found next to her. Paramedics treated the female and transported her to Osindisweni Government Hospital.

According to the parents, the child was found walking with her boyfriend near a local garage yesterday during school hours. This led to an altercation and child made her first suicide attempt by slitting her wrists.

The child was scheduled to write her Zulu Paper 1 examinations that morning.
