On March 10 gangs of heavily armed men targeted bank customers in separate armed robberies in the Highway area.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a gang followed a bank customer from a branch to his home in Jan Smuts Highway in Winston Park at around 10.15am.
“A gang of five men, one of them armed with an AK47, ambushed the resident and demanded cash as he arrived outside his gate. The gang fled in a blue Chevrolet Spark with R25 000 and the victim’s cellphone. No injuries were reported,” he said.
Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson said in a separate incident in Balfour Road in Cowies Hill, a resident was followed from an FNB branch in Westville and robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash, as well as jewellery and her car keys. The incident occurred at around 12.30pm.
“The gang pulled up behind her vehicle into the driveway and jumped out. Three suspects wearing gloves and balaclavas and armed with rifles held up her up at gunpoint and robbed her before fleeing in a silver Mercedes Benz with the registration NUR 21252. No injuries were reported,” he said.
Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
