The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda has applauded the police for their sterling work in arresting the gang that has been involved in shopping mall robberies in the province.
According to the police, the arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation by various police units, which led to the arrest of a leader of one of the gangs responsible for many mall robberies in the province.
Detectives from the Provincial Mall Robbery Task Team had been tracking the movements of the suspect who remained very elusive and was possibly aware that police were looking for him.
During the night of 4 July 2017 police launched an operation after identifying two residences at AA section and BB section in Umlazi, used as hideouts by these criminals.
