Over the weekend of 22 and 23 July 2017, four suspects were arrested in the Uthukela Cluster in separate cases of robbery and assault GBH.

On Saturday afternoon, 22 July 2017, an 18-year-old man was injured after he was stabbed during a robbery in Residency Road, Ladysmith. The 26-year-old suspect attempted to steal the victim’s cell phone.

With the assistance of members of the community, the suspect was apprehended and will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on 24 July 2017, where he faces a charge of robbery.

Later the same day, a suspect aged 20 was arrested in Queen Street, Ladysmith after he had stabbed a 26-year-old man whilst robbing him of cash. Members of the community caught the suspect and allegedly assaulted him before handing the injured suspect over to police.

The suspect was later admitted to hospital as a result of his injuries. The suspect is currently still in hospital under police guard and once discharged, he will be charged with robbery.
