Four Suspects Apprehended: Armed Response Busts Durban Housebreakers

Alert Blue Security reaction officers, security guards and quick-thinking neighbours resulted in successful arrests of housebreaking suspects in three different incidents over the weekend.

“In the early hours of Monday morning swift action by a Blue Security reaction officer in Glenwood saw two housebreaking suspects apprehended and taken into custody,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios. “Our reaction officer was responding to an activation when he observed two suspects on the property. They, in turn, jumped over a fence and attempted to flee when they saw the officer,” Mathios said. “One suspect was successfully apprehended in Helen Joseph Road and handed over to Umbilo SAPS. Further investigations revealed that suspects had been in the process of removing floodlights from the wall of the premises, when they were interrupted,” Mathios said.

In a separate incident, at about 6.30am,on Friday morning, stolen items were recovered and a suspect arrested in Mayville. “On arrival at the business premises a security guard indicated to Blue Security reaction officers where a suspect had been seen making his getaway,” Mathios said. “The suspect was eventually discovered standing on a driveway gate behind the boundary wall and tree. The suspect was ordered to get down, handcuffed and handed over to Mayville SAPS for processing,” Mathios said.

“Items still in his possession at the time of arrest included a hydraulic jack, caps, a belt and calculator. Scrutiny of CCTV footage showed the suspect breaking into a vehicle on the property before he tried to evade arrest. The stolen items were also given to SAPS as evidence in the investigation,” Mathios said.

In Glenwood, on Sunday morning, a resident activated the alarm when she realized three men were attempting to break into her garage. “The suspects had managed to damage the door before a neighbour raised the alarm,” Mathios said. “The officers quickly began combing the area and were successful in apprehending two of the suspects nearby,” Mathios said.  “The two men, as well as CCTV footage providing visual evidence, were handed over to Umbilo SAPS for further processing,” Mathios said.
