On 18 february 2019, four accused aged between 23 and 51 appeared at the Weenen Magistrates Court where they were remanded into custody until 22 February 2019 and 8 March 2019. The arrests were affected on the weekend after the operations that were conducted at the Mtebule and Sahlumbe areas by the Tactical Response Team members from EThekwini Central and Phoenix as well as Newcastle Public Order Police.

Three men aged between 32 and 51 were arrested at Mtebhula area and they were each found with a pistol on their possession and a total of seven rounds of ammunition. They were charged and taken to Weenen police station for detention.

Police proceeded to Sahlumbe area where a 23 year old male was arrested after he was found with two homemade firearms in his possession. A homemade rifle and a homemade pistol was confiscated. He was also charged for possession of unlicensed firearms.

These operations will continue throughout the Weenen policing precinct and surrounding areas. All the recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were involved in any crimes in the republic.
