Four suspects are appearing at the Maphumulo Magistrates court on 11 January 2019, for possession of firearms and ammunition. The men were arrested by police officers from the Ilembe Cluster Task Team and Umhlali K9 Unit during an intelligence driven operation that was conducted in the early hours in the Maphumulo policing precinct.

Three suspects aged between 42 and 48 were arrested at Mabhobhane and Enhlangwini areas after they were found in possession of three homemade shotguns and a handgun.

All firearms had one round of ammunition each. A 42 year old suspect from Enhlangwini was found with a homemade shotgun and a handgun. Other two suspects were found with a homemade shotgun each. Police proceeded to Endanyini area where another suspect was arrested. A 39 year old suspect was found with a pistol in his possession and he was immediately arrested. His firearm had its serial number filed off.

The arrested suspects will be profiled to determine if they can be linked to any serious and violent crimes in the area.

These operations will continue to eradicate the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in the province.
