Following the launch of stabilisations in the province, police officer in the eThekwini Clusters have been deployed strategically placed in hotspot areas and are intercepting criminals that are lurking in certain neighbourhoods.
Communities are once again reminded to immediately contact police if they spot suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods. Criminals are targeting certain areas where residents are not as vigilant and not proactive in reporting criminal behaviour to authorities.
Police officers from Sydenham SAPS were deployed on visible policing operations yesterday the spotted a vehicle travelling along Sparks Road with four occupants. The vehicle was intercepted on Stanley Copley Drive in Sydenham and the men were searched. During the search, two unlicensed firearms were found in their possession with a total of fourteen rounds of ammunition.
The suspects who are aged between 23 and 34 were placed under arrest. They are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrates Court facing charges for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
In another operation, police officer from Point SAPS were conducting operations in their police precinct and conducting searches at certain buildings. During the search, a 50 year old man was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and was immediately placed under arrest. He will appear in court soon.
All firearms that were seized will be subjected to ballistic tests to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any crime in the country.
