Blue Security armed response officers arrested four alleged housebreaking suspects in Chatsworth and Pinetown at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an armed response officer arrested two alleged housebreakers on a business premises in Cherry Road in Pinetown at around 3.50pm yesterday. “The armed response officer arrived at the scene of the burglary to find two suspects on the property. When he shouted to the suspects to lie down on the floor, they attempted to flee the scene and to hide among pallets stored in the building,” Mathios said.

Mathios said one of the suspects reached for something in his pocket, before the suspects fled in different directions, and the officer fired two shots. “The suspects then surrendered and were handed over to the Pinetown SAPS at the scene of the crime. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.

Mathios said an alleged housebreaker was arrested in Riverdale Road in Silverglen after a neighbour spotted him standing on a property holding a spade and a hammer on Saturday. The incident occurred in broad daylight at around 12.25pm. “The officer responded to the scene and arrested the suspect who was handed over to the Bayview SAPS and charged for attempted housebreaking,” Mathios said.

Mathios added that another suspect was arrested in Riverdale Road at around 11.30am on Friday after he allegedly stole a carpet from the verandah of a property in Grasmere Road. “The suspect had allegedly jumped over the fence into the property and fled with the carpet, but he was later arrested and handed over to the Bayview SAPS,” Mathios said.

In further efforts, quick action led to the arrest of two other suspects in Pinetown recently.
