Four Glencoe murderers sentenced, Dundee

Four murder accused, Sikhumbuzo Sithole (29), Thembinkosi Vilakazi (23), Lindo Vilakazi (22) and Mlungisi Mjikijelwa Sithole (19) were convicted and sentenced by the Dundee Regional Court on 9 March 2018 for murder and assault.

They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for murder and six months each for assault.

On 2 May 2015 at 02:00, the victim was at KwaMahlobo tavern, Sithembile location in Glencoe, drinking when he had an argument with the accused.

The accused left the premises and waited for him outside. When the victim left the tavern, he was approached by the accused who stabbed him several times on the body and died at the scene. A case of murder was opened at Glencoe police station for further investigation and the docket was assigned to detectives who worked around the clock tracing the perpetrators.

Eventually, four accused were arrested and linked to the murder of Simphiwe Govender (27).

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence handed down to the four accused.

“We cannot tolerate such people who attack and kill innocent community members apparently for no reason. People should learn to respect other people’s rights and refrain from doing wrong things. He further commended the members for making sure that the perpetrators were brought to book,” he said.
