Three suspects aged 31 and 38 are set to appear at the Ladysmith Magistrates Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The three suspects were arrested on Wednesday morning 13 February 2019, at Ladysmith, by officers from the Newcastle Public Order Policing Unit, Pinetown and Ladysmith Tactical Response Units and officers from the Ladysmith Visible Policing Unit.

The suspects were found in possession of a rifle, two 9mm pistols and 87 rounds of ammunition. The teams proceeded to the Ladysmith Taxi Rank where a large number of people were searched.

In another incident on 12 February 2019 at 09:30, a 57 year old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police officers from KwaMsane were conducting crime prevention duties at Nkodibe area when the stopped a suspect and searched him. Their search provided fruitful result when the suspect was found in possession an unlicensed pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition.

He appeared at the Nkodibe on 13 February 2019.
